Natural Resources and Environmental
Services
Federal,
state and local laws regulate
our nations natural resources,
from air to water to land. Billions
of dollars are spent by industry
to comply with these regulations
and significant financial resources
are dedicated toward management,
enforcement, research and analysis.
Approximately $2 billion is
spent annually by ten federal
departments and agencies toward
developing stewardship partnerships
with industry and researching
the interaction of natural and
human-induced changes to resources
in the global environment. The
federal government has placed
special analytic emphasis on
five critical sectors:
- Agriculture
- Water
- Health
- Forests
- Coastal Areas and Marine
Resources
Several
collaborative efforts are underway
to develop and define indicators
to measure and assess resource
health, change and long-term sustainability.
Sustainable development is increasingly
accepted by industry as a way
to improve the bottom-line, reduce
regulatory risks, and improve
standing within the communities
they serve. Proactive technology
and best practices utilization
and partnership creation allows
corporations increased flexibility
in responding to government regulations
and often creates new product
and service business opportunities.
